The King Plus Double Chip LED grow light is our next review. This is a brand new and extremely powerful product. Not only is this led panel powerful the build quality is excellent it makes for one of the best lights for the money.

LED Grow light technology has been growing by leaps and bounds over the past 24 months. As more and more people begin growing cannabis due to the legalization or decriminalization of cannabis; it pushes the people who make the equipment to develop more of the latest and greatest technology to compete. This becomes a great advantage to the new grower who can reap the benefits of new more powerful LED lighting system that run on much less power consumption. These newer generation LED grow lights now can compete for head to head with High-Pressure Sodium lights only they use a fraction of the energy.

A great example of LED grow light technology jumping forward is the top-rated Kind Plus Double Chip unit. This LED grow light boasts 10w LEDs chips which can put out a staggering 2000 Watts of energy for your plants. With most options on the market using 2 and 3w LED grow lights you can see the advantage of the Kind Plus grow light quickly. A side note, we did test the King Plus 1000w unit last year and also had good results as it also contains double chips full spectrum.

We were extremely excited to get our hands on one of these bad boys to run it through its paces on a Screen of Green grow we’ve been planning. The plan was to train the plants to be low riders and FIM them to increase the number of Cola’s. By flattening out the plant and increasing the bud density we are expecting to drastically increase our yield. We used the King Plus Double Chip Led Grow light 18 inches above the plants and blasted the plants with light for 18 hours a day.

Our grow went extremely well using this grow light. We lowered the light to 16 inches when we switched it over from the vegetative and flowering stage with just a flip of a switch. We flowered the plants and were amazed by the density of the buds that were produced. We easily had the same yield as using a HIP system only we used half the energy.

Double Chips

What makes this unit so powerful? The secret is the double 5-Watt chips which are laid out in a grid pattern. These chips are literally more than twice as bright as your average LED grow light. I haven’t seen this sort of technology before on any of the other lights we’ve reviewed, and I have to say I’m excited to see more of it in the future. These double chips provided very bright uniform light with a PAR range of about 660 directly below the led grow unit.

The LEDs used to build this unit have a lifetime expectancy of 50,000 hours and to ensure that the grow light continues to perform even if one LED burns out. This is known as a “Zener protector”, it allows the unit to continue working even when one light is burned out, think of it like a string of Christmas Tree lights. Just because one light goes out doesn’t mean the whole strong is done for.

King LED Grow Light

Cooling

Though LED grow lights generally produce 50% less heat than traditional HIP grow lights there is still a need for an on-board cooling system to protect the LEDS from overheating and reducing their lifespan. Each LED grow panel contain multiple heat sinks to help draw heat away from the electronics. High-quality fans move air over the heat-sinks to further increase heat dissipation.

Full Spectrum

Part of the magic about LED grow panels is the fact that they can be operated with multiple light spectrums at the same time. This is achieved by inserting different colored LEDS as well as IR an UV Chips into the mix of on-board LEDs. Full spectrum LED grow lights are designed specifically to produce the exact wavelengths of light that are used by your cannabis plants. The led light emits a purplish color due to the different colored chips that are being used at the same time.

The correct light spectrum contains a blend of red, blue, yellow and white lights. On top of those colors, infrared and ultraviolet are also included. All these spectrums together make up the effects of summer day sunlight. The actual wavelength bands being used are 410nm, 430~440nm, 450~475nm, 620~630nm, 650~670nm, White, IR(730nm). Be very careful when working around a high-powered LED grow light such as the King Plus as the power can easily cause eye damage very quickly. You should always use approved sunglasses to prevent harmful UV exposure.

Coverage

The 2000-Watt grow panel has an effective vegetative range of 5.5 feet by 5.5 feet. The flowering range is 4.5 by 4.5 feet. This easily provides light for up to 10 plants. I think you could flower easily up to 5×5 if you raised the light a few inches.
